Having a stand-by generator is a necessity today. My name is Barbara and I work from home. Also, I live in an area which is 'plagued' by power outings.
Over the past 25 years I lived through two ice storms which resulted in loss of power, each lasting on average two weeks.
The first one, and at that time a new experience for me, I survived well with the help of my neighbors. Also, despite the outage happening in November, the weather was quite warm for that time of the year.
The second one happened one January. Living in Quebec, Canada, we are in the middle of winter and the temperature can be quite punishingly cold. However, we do usually have to deal with a couple of days of warmth, the barometer rising above zero degrees.
That particular year the thaw was accompanied by a good 3 days of ice rain and high winds. Power lines not only went down under the weight of the ice build up, branches being covered by ice buildup and crashing on the cables.
A bad situation was made worse by cable towers tumbling over from the weight of the ice build up as well as the very strong winds. The neighborhood banded together and we all survived.
However, I swore that this was the last power failure I would endure without a generator. A portable top of line was immediately purchased and installed. It worked wonderfully; the drawback however was that it was extremely heavy to move around. And no matter the installation, they must be moved.
The 'machine' became too difficult to deal with, especially during the winter months. A change was in order.
I had seen advertisements of Generac generators in newspapers and knew a number of people who had them installed. After talking with them about their experiences, I decided that this was the route to go and contacted the contractor.
The installation took place on a December day and the weather was not cooperating. It was a cold and wet adventure for the technicians. However, the work was finished just before the Christmas holidays.
I have now had 'my Generac' for over two years. During this time, there were power failures in all types of weather, hot and extremely cold, thunderstorms or just extremely severe winds, or no reason at all that the power failed.
The power goes off, the generator kicks in. I have light, heat, the computer equipment works and my work schedule is not being interrupted. Certain home appliances are working and hot water continues to be supplied.
I have never regretted purchasing and installing a Generac generator. I can only recommend the product.
